get lost in everything on your plate: do the post-it exercise for an overview!

At the end of the day, feeling wet, do you throw yourself into the couch with a bag of chips and a glass of wine, no longer knowing what you were doing that day, and does this happen more often? Save alert! You disconnected from your job and - worse - from yourself! Do you want to prevent this? Take part in this exercise, get something to write and about 10 and 20 post-its in different colors. Then feel free to relax in your seat.

STEP 1. the mind dump

Grab the approximately 20 post-its and write down one task per post-it that you still have to do, about fifteen to twenty. Feel free to take your time: e.g. reading mail, completing a certain task or reporting, making a project plan, preparing a meeting or carrying out its actions, something you've been putting off for a long time or would like to do for a long time, even if it's about making a phone call or having a coffee

.

What does this do to you, what does it make you feel?

If it's okay, writing down your tasks provided some relief because your brain was able to solve them. However, if you got even more stressed, grab another glass of wine, a handful of chips or that extra chocolate because then you really need

it.

STEP 2. Your work goals

Now grab the approximately 10 other color post-its and write down a work goal for each post-it: areas where you need to achieve results. They depend very much on the position you are in. Inspiration is usually found in your job description or your annual goals or... with your boss, of course.

Less easy, isn't it? Naming your goals requires a little bit more thought. You don't really think about that every day. But you're on the right track: just continue with step 3 or read being busy like a headless chick first: how to set goals & take steps

?

3. work purposefully

Now attach your first created post-its to your goals and post-its. Don't fiddle! Only when it's really part of it, you hang it underneath, that's how you get a number of goal post-its with task post-its underneath or glued to them.

And, what effect does this have? Take a look at your post-it artwork, what does it make you feel?

Normally, this provides structure and therefore an overview.

4. prioritize your goals post-its

Give your goals post-its numbers, determine the priority or at least an order you prefer, even more

clarity.

Do you have goal and post-its that don't involve tasks? Is that really your goal? Or what needs to be done - urgent or not - for this? Maybe you can dismantle time bombs right away: divide your work, estimate time and schedule it right away! help with this.

Or even: task post-its for which there are no goals? Are you doing tasks for which you have no goal, is that useful? Do you get appreciation for those tasks? Or do you do work for which no agreements have been made? Read more about it in saying no to your boss in a customer-focused way: how to redefine goals together

?

Rather, you can easily achieve overview by structure in any organizational system. For example, you can create categories in Outlook where you can attach tasks, emails and appointments. That way, you create a visual overview and an overview gives you... wings. So it's not the wine that's going to make you float!

And... action!
